Listen ! - Permanent music composing Contest : up to three prizes !

Facing the important offer of this six-month period of music on the Members' Compositions Forum (nearly fifty proposed works!) for our Permanent Composition Contest , the jury deliberate with some difficulties, for finally conclude with...three awards !

- The first award unanimously goes to Yves Rinaldi , for his work: "Il lui disait" (He said to her).
Here is what Jean-Pierre Nouvel says, as a member of the Jury:

This morning, I listened to all works of all the applicants (...) For me, this is Yves Rinaldi. I hesitated a moment between "Toccata and Menuet", drawn from the “Ball”, and one of his melodies. I decide finally on "He said to her ", written for soprano and orchestra. You know that I have been long enough about with composers having written for voice; this is not this fact which decides to me, of course, because great composers wrote very poor things in this field. But to have read and often sung the works of tens of composers, I have to acknowledge in Yves Rinaldi an authentic melodist composer- they are very rare -, I will even say a "great melodist ". His melodies, and this one in particular, are remarkably written. Flexible, sensitive, modulating as a curl of smoke, it arouse the interest and raise a difficult text (what a soprano ! or rather a mezzo, so that she seems to me) until the end of the last note. This is an exacting work for happy fews. A nugget.

Listen to it:

It should be noted that an extract of “I breathe or you palpitate” of the same composer can also be listened on Radio MusHar.
Besides, regarding the quality of this already imposing work, the jury decided to co-opt Yves Rinaldi as Associated composer to the "Salon de musique". For this reason - and if he accepts! - he will be part of the jury for the next contests (*).

- The second award goes to Jean Jacques Engels (alias Groupir) for his work "Return to Saint Malo". The webmaster was fond of it, so that it can be listened already on Radio MusHar (click in top, right side), but equally here. Although the work be unfinished (less than 4 mn), the jury wanted to reward "the quality and the fineness of the work" of an authentically romantic and eminent melodist composer (to be read enthusiastic criticisms of our members, members' composition forum, here)

- Lastly, the jury appreciated the “clever and intelligent” character of the composition “tonal Schizophrenia”; he thus decided, exceptionally to award the composer, Mathieu Métivier (alias Pitchoun) a special award for this very contemporary composition.

And as the three musketeers, these three awards come complete with a "young hope" prize that awards...Francois-Xavier Thoorens (alias Gershwinou) for his Works for piano. Here a young and brilliant composer that already showed us his talents as improviser and composer to the piano and the organ. You can appreciate while listening to his Toccata either on radio Mushar (upthere), or on his own site and, of course in the members' compositions forum.

In the name of all members, all our congratulations to the happy winners!

(*) Obviously his works will not be able to compete any more, but they will be regularly presented at the Composing parners' Salon de musique and on our blog.
